As with all Broadband services, a number of factors affect upload and download speeds. These include - amongst others - the length of the line to your nearest phone exchange, the quality of the line from the point you plug your router into the wall, through to the Internet itself at that particular time.
We believe it's important to be upfront about your Broadband speed. We base our services on two technologies which theoretically delivery up to 8Mbit/s and 20Mbit/s download speeds.
When we provide these services we do so on an "As fast as you can get" basis meaning IFB will do everything we can to ensure the best possible performance from your connection in terms of upload and download speeds and stability and get as close to the advertised rate as we can.
While we always use the maximum theoretical speed in our service description, as do all our competitors, in practice the actual service you receive may vary.
Not only do we make sure our clients are aware of this, but also - where there are significant speed differences - we try to improve our clients' experience as best we can.
How other providers make you aware of this issue is, of course, up to them. But it may be worth asking for a clear statement on what you can expect from their service.
Up to 8Mbit/s services
IFB services provisioned on exchanges which are enabled to support up to 8Mb/s will have download speeds no higher than 7,150Kb/s, this simply is a technical limitation in the technologies used to deliver and manage the service. There will be fluctuation in Broadband line speed within the first 10 days of service whilst your line speed adapts to the maximum it can reliably support.
Due to how the broadband network is designed and Broadband usage it is possible that Broadband download speeds no greater than 2Mb/s may be achieved at peak usage times.
If your local phone exchange is adsl2+ enabled then you can expect to see upload speeds of up to 1Mbit/s. If your local phone exchange is NOT adsl2+ enabled then you can expect to see upload speeds of up to 448Kbps on our Broadband service and 832Kbps on our Business Broadband service.
Up to 20Mbit/s services
IFB services provisioned on exchanges which are enabled to support up to 20Mb/s will have download speeds no higher than 16,000Kb/s this is a technical limitation in the technologies used to deliver and manage the service. There will be fluctuation in Broadband line speed within the first 10 days of service whilst your line speed adapts to the maximum it can reliably support.
Due to how the broadband network is designed and Broadband usage it is possible that Broadband download speeds no greater than 2Mb/s on BroadbandPlus and 3Mb/s on Business Broadband Plus services will be achieved at peak usage times.
If your local phone exchange is adsl2+ enabled then you can expect to see upload speeds of up to 1Mbit/s.
