Improving business flexibility and productivity in oil and gas

“Our business was changing rapidly with many of the conditions affecting us being outside our control, IFB help us to plan, manage and deliver the connectivity we need, as we need it”

Executive Summary

Our customer, a leading global oil and gas service company, was rapidly reorganising its business structure. This meant its IT team had to make quick decisions and deliver changes in order to keep pace with the business demand across Europe.

A key need was to ensure there was great connectivity in place for each individual business unit across various location so they could operate seamlessly and take advantage of new business resources in different locations including the Cloud.

Challenges

Market pressure were not only providing challenges for our customers in terms of their revenues, costs and consolidation. But it also offered them opportunities to strengthen and grow their business through acquisition.

They needed a connectivity partner that they could trust to understand these needs, work with them strategically, to plan and offer technical options and deliver these on time to support the business.

How IFB Helped

The IFB team engaged with the customer to map out their current network and connectivity needs and then worked with them to develop scenario plans for each – including possible new business locations, manufacturing sites, warehousing, production facilities onshore, offshore and internationally.

This presented our customer with a strategic technical plan with various options around connectivity – with advanced survey information with greater certainty on what services could be delivered, at what cost and when.

We did this by using a mix of fibre, internet access mobile 5G and offshore 4G connections. We effectively developed a service matrix for the customers providing details on service speeds and capacities for each location, expected costs and terms for these and as importantly time to deliver these services in each case.

Results, Return on Investment and Future Plans

Working with IFB has provided the customer with a strategic early stage resource tool, where they can quickly and easily understand connectivity options for their sites – meaning they can plan business movement and costs at the earliest of stages and where they need to have updated.

  • Improved cost control

  • Reduced delivery times

  • Better future planning

For example, in some instances deploying our unlimited mobile broadband service has meant getting a site  and running and into the corporate network in matter of days cost efficiently and using this until full fibre a  service can be delivered.

The customer has also managed to achieve a healthy ROI in investing in connectivity upgrades allowing them to remove on premise instances of applications, and infrastructure and move these to the software vendors or other cloud providers including IFB.
