What happens when the sun goes down on 3G?

There is a lot of change in the comms market right now, with analogue line services being switched off in 2025 gathering a lot of attention – hence in part a lot of investment in Fullfibre services – IFB do these too...

However, there is a more pending and major change happening in the mobile market that you might not be aware of - and that’s the switch off of 3G networks that started in February 2023. The impact this is going to have when it comes to continuity of service, costs, and security is massive for many companies who use these services.

If you are running data services for your organisation using 3G networks with Vodafone, EE, and Three with hardware that can’t be upgraded to accommodate 4G or 5G, then, as we see it, you face 3 key choices and you need to make these quickly.

  1. Invest and upgrade all your hardware quickly to make it 4G & 5G ready and compatible – we can help you here with new SIMs and contracts and a new way of managing these more easily than before.

  2. Work with IFB to help prolong the lifetime of your current hardware and make the management of your mobile data environment easy and simple to deliver new SIMs on a network that will help you maintain service as it is for as long as possible and put off that hardware investment.

  3. As an intermediate step, let us provide and manage pre-configured plug-n-play Devices as a Service (DaaS) routers with E-Mark certification – this means these can be used in transport vehicles within the UK/EU as well as other use cases.

We are already helping customers with these problems – the largest has over 600 trucks and vehicles on the road UK wide, migrating them to IFB, providing new SIMs, managing the switch over to us, and then as needed to 4G and 5G.
All of this has helped them maintain productivity, reduce costs and prolong the life and usability of their hardware in a managed way.
